Sanity Sunday- Four by Nina Simone

by Nomad

I really think this artist needs no introduction. So let's get straight into it. First up is Simone's signature piece- probably her most famous work- which captures not only her musical abilities but her power to move her audience.
I dedicate the song, Sinner Man, to a certain person that has been on everybody's lips for well over a year now. Probably the most detested person on the planet at this moment.

The second selection, "Ain't Got No" was released in 1968 and it is from her 'Nuff Said album.

The song, "Do What You Gotta Do," also comes from the same album.

Our final song, "You've Got to Learn" was featured on her 1965 album, "I Put a Spell on You." The message of this song is - pure Nina Simone- a bitter victory forged by the determination to overcome the obstacles no matter how overwhelming they might seem.
You've got to learn to hide your sorrow
And go on living as before
What good is thinking of tomorrow
Who knows what it may have in store

I will close with a timely Simone quote.
What kept me sane was knowing that things would change, and it was a question of keeping myself together until they did.
Have a great Sunday. Take a moment to remember your mother.
